The A琀琀orney General is the chief legal o昀케cer for the State of West Virginia and
is commi琀琀ed to protec琀椀ng the interests of West Virginians. As part of the state
execu琀椀ve branch, the du琀椀es of the O昀케ce of the A琀琀orney General include
providing advice and counsel to the state, its o昀케cers and agencies; prosecu琀椀ng
and defending legal ac琀椀ons on behalf of the state; represen琀椀ng the state in all
ac琀椀ons pending in the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals; giving wri琀琀en
opinions upon ques琀椀ons of law; and enforcing the laws of the state as they
relate to consumer protec琀椀on, unfair trade prac琀椀ces, civil rights, and other
areas of law.
